I have been battling against stink bugs for weeks now. They are little greyish green beetles which get everywhere, especially in bedcovers and clothes. They are thus named because they stink if you crush them, which of course is their best defence. So I have developed another technique for keeping the population down. Whenever I see one, I catch it live in an empty matchbox which I always keep on hand in my bedroom. This does not require any great hunting skills, because stinkbugs are by nature slow, trusting creatures. In fact, this afternoon, sorting through some laundry, I clocked up an entire matchbox of 20 stinkbugs in the space of 10 minutes. When I reach a quorum, I place the matchbox out in the sun, and there they are fated to be roasted alive.
